Matching Dog and Owner Jewelry: How It Works
The short answer
A matching set is a piece made twice — once sized for a dog's neck, once sized for a person's — using the same links, the same stones, and the same finish. Worn together they read as one design across two necks. Most "matching" pet jewelry isn't this; it's two loosely similar products sold next to each other.
What makes a set an actual set
Three things, and it's worth checking all three before you buy:
The same link. If the dog's version is a Cuban link and yours is a rope chain, they don't match — they just share a colour. The link pattern is what the eye reads first.
The same stones and setting. Stone size scales a little between the two, but the cut, colour, and how they're set should be identical. A collar with dense pavé next to a necklace with three accent stones will never look like a pair.
The same finish. Gold-tone and silver-tone read very differently under a phone camera. Order both halves in the same finish unless you're deliberately going two-tone.
How ours are built
Four of our styles are made in both sizes:
- Classic — the slimmest chain, closest to a traditional necklace
- Deluxe — heavier links, more presence
- Gem — alternating coloured and clear crystals
- Cuban 14mm — the widest and the most recognisably New York of the four
Each is assembled by hand in Brooklyn from the same components, so the dog's collar and the owner's necklace genuinely are the same piece at two scales. We also make two-tone pieces in pink and blue on the owner's side.

Sizing both halves
The two are measured differently, which trips people up.
The dog's collar is sized to the neck. Wrap a soft tape where a collar sits, snug with two fingers underneath, and match that number to the chart. Full method in the size guide.
Your necklace is sized by the chain's total length, not your neck. 16 inch sits at the base of the throat, 18 inch just below the collarbone — the usual choice — and 20 inch and up sit down the chest. If you own a chain whose drop you like, measure it flat and order that length.
The two numbers are unrelated. A dog wearing an 18 inch collar has nothing to do with what length suits you.
Wearing them together
A few things we've learned from photographing these:
Matching finishes photograph better than matching exactly in width. A slim Classic on a small dog next to a Classic on you looks more deliberate than forcing the widest chain onto a dog that can't carry it.
Chain reads best against contrast — gold on a dark coat, silver on a light one. If your dog is black or dark brindle, gold tends to show more.
And take the dog's off afterwards. These are decorative pieces for supervised wear, not walking collars, and they shouldn't stay on an unattended dog. More on that in are chain collars safe for dogs?
Buying the pair
Add any two pieces to your cart and the set discount applies automatically at checkout — no code needed. It works across any two items, so you can pair a collar with your necklace, or buy two collars if you have two dogs.
Everything is made to order, so allow two to three weeks. And because all sales are final, send us your dog's measurement before you order if there's any doubt — we'll confirm the size.
